About Jokes

The Type designation 'Joke' was previously used by F-Secure to identify a non-destructive program with an annoying or funny functionality.

These are not actually viruses, but joke programs that create virus-like symptoms. They do not spread or cause damage. F-Secure products detect joke programs because their behavior often causes the user to suspect a virus infection.

With changes in the threat landscape today, programs previously identified as 'Joke' are now classified under the Riskware Category, with the Type designation 'Application'.

The update in naming better clarifies the program's overall security profile in the current, more complex threat landscape.
