DESCRIPTION:
Luigi Auriemma has discovered a vulnerability in Sybase Adaptive
Server Enterprise, which can be exploited by malicious people to
cause a DoS (Denial of Service) or potentially compromise a
vulnerable system.

The vulnerability is caused due to a format string error within the
Backup Server component when creating a log message. This can be
exploited to cause the process to crash or corrupt memory via a
specially crafted packet sent to TCP port 5001.

Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code.

NOTE: Exploitation on Windows results in a DoS only.

The vulnerability is confirmed in version 15.5 running on Windows.
Other versions may also be affected.

SOLUTION:
Restrict access to trusted hosts only.
