DESCRIPTION:
Two vulnerabilities have been reported in GeoIP C API, which can be
exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.

1) The "GeoIP_update_database_general()" function does not correctly
sanitise the filename returned from the update server. This can be
exploited by e.g. a malicious update server to overwrite arbitrary
files with the privileges of the user running the update via
directory traversal attacks.

Note: This is related to SA23880 and may only affect Windows
systems.

2) The "geoipupdate-pureperl.pl" script does not correctly sanitise
the filename returned from the update server. This can be exploited
by e.g. a malicious update server to overwrite arbitrary files with
the privileges of the user running the update via directory traversal
attacks.

The vulnerabilities are reported in version 1.4.7. Other versions may
also be affected.

SOLUTION:
Manually download and install database updates.
