A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:

- Ubuntu 26.04 LTS
- Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
- Ubuntu 22.04 LTS

Summary:

FreeType could be made to crash if it opened a specially crafted file.

Software Description:
- freetype: FreeType 2 is a font engine library

Details:

It was discovered that FreeType had a flaw in its CID font loader. An
attacker could possibly use this issue to cause FreeType to consume
excessive memory and CPU resources, leading to a denial of service.

Update instructions:

The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following
package versions:

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS
libfreetype6 2.14.2+dfsg-1ubuntu0.2

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
libfreetype6 2.13.2+dfsg-1ubuntu0.2

Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
libfreetype6 2.11.1+dfsg-1ubuntu0.4

In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes.
