Sound like a user password problem.

Sure that user name and password is correct?
Samba username/password is NOT the same as system username/password.

set samba password with:

Code: Select all

smbpasswd username

Thanks.

Indeed the smb password was not set.

But now I have the following error message:
tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME

Can you post you config (/etc/smb.conf).

I might be linked to read permissions on the directory you share.

Code: Select all

chmod 755 dir
should solved that.

But it is not sure it is linked to that.
The config can give us more info to investigate?

The read access is correct, but it didn't solve the problem.

Here is my smb.conf file

Code: Select all

#
# Sample configuration file for the Samba suite for Debian GNU/Linux.
#
#
# This is the main Samba configuration file. You should read the
# smb.conf(5) manual page in order to understand the options listed
# here. Samba has a huge number of configurable options most of which
# are not shown in this example
#
# Any line which starts with a ; (semi-colon) or a # (hash)
# is a comment and is ignored. In this example we will use a #
# for commentary and a ; for parts of the config file that you
# may wish to enable
#
# NOTE: Whenever you modify this file you should run the command
# "testparm" to check that you have not made any basic syntactic
# errors.

There is a lot of info in that file.

But the only important part is:

Code: Select all

[SHARE]
path = /var/share/
guest ok = yes
case sensitive = no
strict locking = no
msdfs proxy = no
force user = first_user
You don't really need all of that;
in fact it should work with just:

Code: Select all

[SHARE]
path = /var/share/
If you use force user = first_user; make sure first_user has read access on the shared directory.

Also guest ok = yes allows anyone to login, without username or password.
So don't use it!

Thanks,

It solved the problem.

I did some testing and the one line that blocked was

Code: Select all

msdfs proxy = no
